The Church of St. John the Baptist is on the Old Market Square. It was built in the 13th century and was located at the intersection of trade routes. The church was able to survive after a violent fire, but it took time to restore it. It found its present appearance in the late 19th century and has since been permanently open to visitors.

On the second day of our stay in Lviv we had an excursion to the High Castle. When we went there, I noticed an unusual church at the foot of the Castle Hill, at first sight very old. After the tour, we decided to examine it more closely. It turned out to be the church of John the Baptist and indeed it is one of the oldest churches in Lviv, preserved since the time of the Galician-Volyn principality.
