A bit of history
The islands of the archipelago of Florida Keys are the above-water part of a coral reef, which is only slightly covered with sand .For a long time here lived the Indian tribes tekvesta and kalusta, and the archipelago was not marked by mariners .But in the 16th century, ships of Spanish conquistadors appeared on Florida Keys, which, however, did not find anything of value here, therefore they did not really live or piracy here .But their appearance nevertheless left a trace: with the Spaniards in the archipelago there were terrible diseases, of which the local tribes had no idea and did not know how to treat them .Several years passed and the islands of the Florida-Keys archipelago became uninhabited .
Over time, white people moved here and life on the islands was adjusted .For a long time after this move from one island to another it was possible only by water .But in the 20th century, the American tycoon and billionaire Henry Flagler built a road that connected Key West to the Florida peninsula .Then the flow of tourists poured into the islands, and local residents got the opportunity to exchange their products with the mainland .Today, the Florida Keys is an incredibly beautiful place that tourists from all over the world like to visit .
Beaches
Zahri Beach is one of the most popular on the archipelago. It is famous for its incredible cleanliness, therefore locals like to rest here. The length of the beach is only 700 meters.
Islamorada Island is a paradise for fishing lovers. All kinds of competitions are constantly held here, and in the waters of the island there are huge tunas. Divers, by the way, also do not miss Islamorade: a coral reef and even a diving museum are available.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions at Florida Keys
The main wealth of the archipelago is its nature, which because of the long isolation has remained virtually untouched. Here you can see the populations of animals that have long disappeared on other continents and islands. Especially interesting are the deer - subspecies of white-tailed deer, which are protected by the state.
Florida Keys is also famous for its mass of natural parks. Among them, the most famous is Dry-Tortugas (translated into Russian as "dry turtle"). This park is on the same island and you can get to it only by boat. It is forbidden to fish, animals and turtles, and in no case should you touch corals. The main attraction of the park is Fort Jefferson (entrance to the park for 7 days about $ 5, children free of charge).
A special place on the archipelago is the lighthouse Key West - now a museum that tourists like to visit. From the panoramic lighthouse site, you can see almost the whole island.
