The Hong Kong Museum of History appeared in July 1975 .as a result of the separation of the City Museum with the Art Gallery at the Hong Kong History Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of Art .In 1983, .for museum exhibits was allocated a building in Kowloon Park, and in 1998 .The museum moved to a new modern building with a total area of 17 500 sq. m .m, for the construction of which from the city budget took 390 million HKD .The historical museum together with the nearby museum of science form a cultural tandem, and even the buildings are combined in an external appearance and color solution .However, for an ever-growing collection and this space was not enough, and gradually, five branches of the Historical Museum opened in Hong Kong: Hong Kong Coast Defense Museum, Tomb Museum Lei Cheng Yuk Han, Exhibition Gallery on the fire ship, Sun Yat-sen Museum and Lowe Museum of Folk Art Uk .

The historical museum together with the Science Museum located nearby form a cultural tandem, combining in appearance and color solution.

Museum exposition

Before the eyes of visitors to the museum is the whole history of Hong Kong, materialized in thousands of exhibits. A fascinating journey into the past of the city begins with a prehistoric hall, where there are giant dioramas dedicated to the daily life of an ancient person.

A separate exposition demonstrates the tools of everyday life and work, all of stone or bone, when our ancestors excelled without metal.

Saying goodbye to the prehistory, we get to the pottery hall with an interesting collection of pottery, then to the halls of the new history, where exhibits related to the main activities of people of that time are represented by fishing .We are waiting for acquaintance with the dwelling of wealthy Chinese, a walk to the theater of that time with penetration backstage and even a traditional tea ceremony .Having received an idea of the "affairs of bygone days", visitors climb to the second floor, dedicated to the newest history of Hong Kong .These exhibits are already a bit closer to us both in time and in spirit: the first typewriters, utensils, documents, photographs - it feels as if the contents of our attics and pantries brought here and breathed new life into it .

It is also interesting to visit a two-story tram in which visitors are shown the multimedia history of pre-war transportation of Hong Kong .The organizers did not ignore the military events .A tiny portion of rice is a typical ration during the years of the Japanese occupation, weapons, awards, photo documents .Preserved in the exhibits of the historical museum and the memory of the tragedies of modern Hong Kong .Problems with water shortages, consequences of earthquakes, landslides, waves of immigration - all these events fall into the focus of our attention, forcing people to empathize and envy their perseverance .
