History
The opera house called the Royal Academy of Music was founded in 1669, its founders were composer R. Camber and poet P. Perrin. 1671 marked the unification with the Royal Academy of Dance, so the theater received a new status of the Royal Academy of Music and Dance, which began its activity in March of the same year. The first production presented to the audience was the musical tragedy Pomona, written by R. Camber and P. Perrin
In the period after the French Revolution the Academy changed its official name more than once. And only in 1871 the great theater was named "Grand Opera". In 1875, construction was completed, and the building acquired its modern look. The author of the project was the architect Charles Garnier, the construction started in 1862. lasted more than 10 years
