The Latvian National Art Museum is the oldest museum in Riga, founded as early as 1869. Then the picture gallery was located in the building of the city gymnasium, but in 1872 it merged with the Riga German Society for the Encouragement of Arts and 1905 for the museum was erected a non-assembly building in which the museum is located to this day
The exposition of the Latvian National Art Museum is represented by the 3-rd themes: arts Baltic 18th-19th centuries, Latvian art of the 19th-20th centuries, Russian art of the 18th and 20th centuries, including a collection of works by Nikolai and Svyatoslav Roerich.

The museum is closed for reconstruction until 2015
