Adolphe Bridge, Luxembourg

The Adolphe Bridge, one of Luxembourg's main attractions, was closed for reconstruction. For the time of repair a new bridge was opened across the Petryuss River, which local residents have already called a blue bridge because of their color.

The works on the construction of the temporary bridge were conducted almost a year and cost the city treasury 23 million EUR. The Blue Bridge began functioning last weekend, April 12 and 13.

Adolf's bridge was closed for vehicles and in a few days will also close for pedestrians. During the reconstruction, which will last until 2017, it is planned to expand the bridge's roadway and conduct a tram line, which will improve the ecological situation in the city. The estimated cost of repairs is 63 million EUR @

The Adolphe Bridge was opened in 1903 and was the tallest stone bridge in the world. It was named in honor of the fourth Grand Duke of Luxembourg Adolf, who ruled for 15 years, from 1890 to 1905.
