Hora Krestov

Hora Krestov is a few kilometers from the Lithuanian city of Siauliai and is a rather strange place: on a small hill there are more than 50 thousand crosses, and from a distance it seems like it is a cemetery. However, this is not at all the case. The Hill of Crosses is a place of pilgrimage, where people from different countries come to establish their personal cross. It is believed that this will help get rid of severe illnesses and entice luck to your side.

As Cultural Studies writes, historians and ethnographers have two versions of the origin of the mountain. According to the first, once on this site was an ancient pagan temple, which retained its importance after Lithuania adopted Christianity in the XIV century. According to another version, Horus Krestov arose in memory of the Lithuanian soldiers who died during the Polish Uprising of 1830-1831
