It is worthwhile to drive just 50 km from the capital of the island to Antananarivo, and you can stumble upon a ridge of extinct volcanoes. Here, a few centuries ago, robbers were hiding from persecution. Volcanoes have been silent for a couple of thousand years, but sometimes they make themselves felt - they arrange small earthquakes in the vicinity of the town of Antsirabe and send hot springs to the earth's surface.
