The Government of Malta developed a project on reconstruction of the capital, the city of Valletta, in order to restore historical places. The world-renowned architect Renzo Piano, who designed a number of objects, the most important of which is the Pompidou Center in Paris, Kansai International Airport in Osaka, the Nemo Museum in Amsterdam, is appointed as the responsible for the execution.

In plans that have been expected for a very long time, gate, the construction of a new open-air concert venue at the site of the former opera house and the new Parliament building. The reconstruction project will cost about 60-80 million EUR and should be completed by 2014. The completion will be timed for the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Malta's independence
