The authorities of Rotterdam announced plans to build an artificial canal for surfing in the heart of the city. The new attraction will be opened in June 2015
The channel will be built near the famous Steigersgracht Shopping Center. At present, the project of the architect Edwin van Weygand is being developed at the Delft University of Technology, where special attention is paid to the strength and stability of the structure.
In addition to entertainment, the new project will benefit Rotterdam: artificial waves will generate a significant share of electricity for the second largest city in the Netherlands . In addition, the waves will clean up the nearby channel
All the profit from the operation of the pool will be reinvested in the green projects of Rotterdam. The artificial pool will attract first of all surfers, kayakers and divers. A terrace with sunbeds and bars will open on the beach
