Statistically, Vigeland Park is one of the most visited sights of the Norwegian capital, with local residents no less than tourists. The main reason for this popularity - more than two hundred sculptures of the national sculptor of Norway Gustav Vigeland, picturesquely located in the expanses of a well-groomed park. But the central place in this exhibition in the open air is occupied by a giant monument "Monolith", with stunning realism depicting the meaninglessness of the race for success.
What to see
Vigeland Park is an ideal open-air museum . In addition to the fact that the landscapes of the park very beautiful, there are many paths and convenient places for recreation, in Vigeland Park you can touch the beautiful, not looking up from nature: among its green lawns the most part of the creative heritage of sculptor Vigeland is exhibited . Total of 212 sculptures . They are made of bronze or granite, they affect human life in all its manifestations: here you can see the lovers' fused passion, and beggars, and the mischievous boy .
The main masterpiece of Vigeland Park is the sculpture "Monolith" 14 meters high, towering on a hill in the center of the territory . On This enormous stone block Vigeland depicted 121 human figures in a particular position, each of which tends to reach the summit at any price . The creation of this large-scale composition took 14 years of daily work of the three stone quarries - that's really real , in the name of the idea of the Norwegians will not stop anything (we recall Tura Heyerdahl and his travel "Kon-Tiki") . On the steps of the pedestal "Monolith" one can see one more curious exhibits: sculptures depicting the whole spectrum of human emotions and occupations .
