Under the roof of the tank museum in Kubinka, more than 300 armored vehicles have been assembled, 60 of which have no analogues in the world. The museum collection covers the centuries-old history of tank building from the time of the First World War to our days. No functioning museum of the world can boast of such a full-fledged and unique collection of military armored vehicles.
The history of the tank museum in Kubinka began in 1938, when the Museum of Combat Vehicles was established on the basis of 17 tanks, an armored personnel carrier and a self-propelled unit. He worked as a structural unit of the research institute and served the purposes of the Defense Committee of the USSR. Up to the 70s, the tank museum carried out reconstruction and decoration works. Finally, the artillery of the museum was ready for the exhibition.
Meanwhile, access to the exhibits of the tank museum in Kubinka was still limited. The museum was created with the purpose of training a special contingent of people: scientists, designers, military. And only with the collapse of the Soviet Union institution was declassified. In 1995, the Museum of Combat Vehicles separated from the Institute and was strengthened as an autonomous institution - the Military History Museum. In 2012 the museum was given under the patronage of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation
What to see
The exposition of the tank museum in Kubinka consists of several thematically united collections. The most numerous collection of domestic military armored vehicles. Soviet armament occupies four pavilions in the museum and, accordingly, is broken down into categories: heavy tanks, medium tanks, armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, light tanks and airborne vehicles. Below are the characteristics of some well-known models of Soviet tanks:
- T-35 - the world's only serial five-tower tank, famous under the moniker Paradny. Repeatedly the giant took part in the parades, clearly demonstrating the power of the Red Army of the 1930s. The length of the T-35 body is about 9.5 m, the height is more than 3 m. The tank is equipped with a solid 76-caliber gun,
- T-80 is the famous "flying" tank, the fastest combat armored vehicle in the world. At a speed of 85 km / h (the extreme speed of the tank) from a 1, 5-meter springboard, the tank is able to "fly" the distance to 18 m. At the time of the jump, there is still the possibility of a shot from the gun and target destruction.
A separate pavilion of the tank museum in Kubinka occupies the collection of technology of fascist Germany
- SAU- "Adam" is the heaviest and most powerful German self-propelled mortar from the beginning of the Second World War. Mortire was equipped with a 600-caliber cannon and launched 4-ton shells over a distance of more than a kilometer. The dimensions of the funnels left by the "Adam" shells could reach several tens of meters in diameter,
- "Maus" is the heaviest tank in history. Combat weight "Mouse" is 188 tons. The model was designed by Ferdinand Porsche - the founder of the company of the same name. For history, only two Mausas were released, but to this day only one has survived. It is he who is exhibited in the tank museum of Kubinka.
Also in the museum you can see the collection of armored vehicles of Japan, the USA and Europe. And only one location still operates in a secret mode: modern scientific and technical developments are being conducted in the eighth pavilion
The tank museum in Kubinka has achieved high results in the restoration activity. Some of the exhibits of the museum, in particular, the German "Tiger", were completely recreated from the spare parts. Restorations are not subject only to combat vehicles. So much of the museum's collection is on track.

Drinks and cakes can be bought at the end of the main avenue in the cafe in the administrative building. The cafe next to the entrance is pretty terrible.
You can not smoke in the territory, but there is a special place for smoking.
There are special tanks on the street (2 pcs) for children to climb.
