There are about thirty volcanoes on the Taman Peninsula - and these are the only volcanoes operating throughout the Caucasus, the feature of which is that on the surface of the earth they spew not lava, but mud masses and gases, often accompanied by water and oil . The most important tourist attraction of Taman is the Tizdar volcano (the mud lake Sinyaya Balka) . In the city of Temryuk there is the Misk volcano . And the largest active mud volcano of the Taman Peninsula, races located 4 km east of the village of Taman, is Karabetova Sopka (or Karapetovskaya Gora) . Attention also deserves the Akhtanizovskaya volcano, which rises 67 m above sea level and is located on the southwestern edge of the village of Taman .
