The exact date of foundation of Rossosh is not known, but the first official mention of this settlement dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. Although it is clear that before that, on the right bank of the Don, there were Russian settlements and settlements of Cossacks, who were resettled here from other regions. In 1721, Rossosh already appears in historical documents as a settlement on the Black River Kalitva with its wooden church and many huts in the Ukrainian style.

Due to the military actions of 1942-1943, Rossosh was badly damaged, many pre-revolutionary buildings were destroyed. Now most visible on the general architectural background are several buildings on Proletarskaya and Oktyabrskaya streets, as well as the railway station building and the Alexander Nevsky church-bell tower.
There is a local history museum in the house No. 2 on Proletarskaya street, which, however, does not have an official status and works thanks to local enthusiasts. The building of the kindergarten, where the museum is located, was built by the Italians on the site where the headquarters of the Alpine shooters was located during the war.
