History
Traces of the first settlements, formed 15-25 thousand years ago, were found in the territory of the modern Ryazan region. It is known that the Finno-Ugric tribes first came here: the Measures, the Meshcher, the Mordva, the whole, the Murom, which gave names to some geographical objects in the territory of the region.
In the 12th century an independent principality was formed with its capital in Ryazan, where the archaeological reserve "Staraya Ryazan" is currently located. In 1237, the Tatar-Mongol army of Khan Batyi captured and ruined the Ryazan land, despite its resistance. In the middle of the 15th century, the Cossacks were first mentioned in the annals, from which the Russian Cossacks came.
In the early 18th century, Ryazan was included in the Moscow province as Pereyaslavl-Ryazan district. By the decree of Catherine II, Ryazan province was formed in 1778.

Buses from Ryazan to Moscow and the railway express are important in inter-regional passenger traffic.
Through the Ryazan region are important railway tracks. This is the "historical" track of the Trans-Siberian Railway and two directions for the Caucasian railways through Pavelets and Ryazhsk.
