A bit of history

Sayanogorsk appeared on the map of Russia in 1975, when the famous Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station was built. The village on this site appeared about a century and a half ago, and there was a border pillar with an observation tower - the village was on the state border itself. Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant does not turn to be called a "landmark". Surroundings of Sayanogorsk

The Gladenkaya ski resort is located about 17 km from Sayanogorsk, near the mouth of the Bolshaya Babik river.
