Entertainment, excursions and attractions Staritsy
The main attraction of the city, located on the right bank of the Volga - Uspensky Staritsky Monastery . @ This is an exceptionally integral ensemble formed during the times of Ivan the Terrible .The active restoration, which is currently underway there, should breathe life into the main historical and, most importantly, the tourist object of the Staritsa, although while admiring the gigantic Russian classical Orthodox architecture, it is only possible from the outside .This is one of the most valuable monastic ensembles in Russia, the local history museum is located in Trapeznaya, which, unfortunately, is now closed .
Ancient settlement
On the left bank there is the Gorodische, comparable in size to the Moscow Kremlin. There is the church of Paraskeva Friday, built in 1750. Theoretically, its ensemble can be attributed to Russian baroque, but in practice the architecture of this church has no analogues anywhere in Russia. It can be called the most beautiful in Staritsa. The church is completely abandoned, but inside you can go and see the surviving wall paintings.
An unprecedented beauty is opened to all daredevils, who reached the large arch bridge connecting the Gorodische and the Assumption Monastery .Staritsa can boast of two Gorodische immediately: Old and New .Closer to the bridge New, steep paths leading to the top .On its slope, another old woman, a church, called in the name of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa .About 20 years ago it was restored, but today it is again abandoned and deserted, offering anyone to walk through its dilapidated steps, sagging earth floor, touch the rough walls of the bell tower .A little higher huddle old forges, arranged directly in the brow of the shaft .And our friend crowns this whole holiday of antiquity, Borisoglebsky Cathedral .
The old town is a businesslike place occupying the headland between the Volga and the river Starchonka, and causes pride among the residents of Staritsa: this is one of the largest and most impressive sites in Russia .Deserted, with traces of archaeological excavations, to all its conquerors, it gives an unforgettable view of the Volga and its surroundings .By the way, in terms of picturesqueness in this respect, only the Staritsky Gate, the 30-kilometer section of the Volga on either side of Staritsy .The Volga banks proudly rise at an altitude of 100-150 meters, forming a deep gorge .And at the exit from it through the sand begin to see the rocks, this is the "old stone" (exclusively qualitative white limestone) .More than 50 underground coastal quarries have survived here, the largest of which (near the village of Chukavino) has a length of over 14 kilometers .
Borisoglebsk Cathedral
Borisoglebsky Cathedral with the bell tower in Staritsa is closed. The powerful walls of the building, wreathed with wild grass, have become gray from time, there is a huge rusty castle on the gate, but despite this, the cathedral rises stately over the Volga, proudly raising the bell tower with the helmet-dome, cracked and knocked down by the winds of heavy times. Either the temple is waiting patiently, when a man's hand caresses, warms, again breathes life into his tired, sagging walls, or sensitively guarded once existing on this place the ancient city.
Other churches of Staritsa
On the left bank of the Volga, there are ruins of the Ascension Church from the times of Ivan the Terrible (near the city garden), and the abandoned Nikolskaya church. At the bus station stands the Ilyinsky church, which is a curious example of European baroque.
In the village of Ivanishchi, 20 kilometers from Staritsa, the Assumption Church has survived. This is a rare example of a three-headed church, well preserved. The village of Red protects the Transfiguration Church as an apple of the eye, an example of a false-logical style.
Staritsa, Vulfov Manor and Pushkin
The old man and the name of the great Russian poet are inextricably linked. Alexander Pushkin liked to visit these places, which inspired him to create the "Winter Morning", "Anchara", "The Poet and the Crowd". He stayed most often with friends at the Wolfe Manor in Bernovo, which is 50 km from Staritsa.
Now in a large manor house the Pushkin Museum is located, open for visits daily, except Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 to 17:00 .By the way, in the estate there is a guest house for several people, where you can stay overnight .What the hell is not joking, suddenly genius is a contagious thing ?! Just in case, the museum's telephones: 634-4135, 634-4133 .The manors of Malnniki and Pavlovka (also the possessions of the Wulfs), Chukavino (the possession of Pushkin's friend, the great patron of Ivan Ermolaevich Wielkopolski), Konoplino (the possession of the famous writer Ivan Ivanovich Lazhechnikov at the beginning of the 19th century) are associated with Pushkin's personality. .
