The Tunkinskaya valley is considered one of the natural pearls of Buryatia. It is an extension of the Baikal basin, stretching almost 200 km. In the valley there are a lot of natural and historical and cultural attractions, which makes it very attractive for tourism and recreation
Entertainment, excursions and attractions
The history of the Tunka Valley is closely related to the history of the Mongolian world. Some of the local attractions are associated with the name of Genghis Khan himself, one of such places is the "Chingis Khan's Throne". It is a picturesque large boulder at the foot of Mount Aryun Mundarga. According to legend, Genghis Khan loved to rest and perform rituals dedicated to the spirits of the mountains.
In the valley there are places connected with the name of the people's hero who later became a god in the people's consciousness - Shargai-Nojon - the liberator of the local population from the Mongolian rule. Religious places Burkhan-Baabai, Takhi-Baryasha and others are associated with the name of Shargai-Noyon.
In the foothills of the Eastern Sayan Mountains one of the main shrines of the Buryat people is the mountain-bull Bukha- Noion. At different times this place was sacred among both shamanists and Buddhists and Orthodox Christians. Nowadays it is revered by everyone, irrespective of religion.
Traditional material and spiritual culture of the people is represented not only in cult buildings, but also in museum expositions. Very interesting museums are working in the valley: a historical and ethnographic museum in the village of Khoytogol, a museum of the history of Buddhism in the village of Zhemchug, a local history museum in the village of Kyren

We love go on a weekend in Arshan, just walk and eat pose and chebureki - in the city they do not. I like to spend most of the time there in the autumn, the people are not so much anymore, you can safely go to the waterfall, visit healing springs and eat delicious food. The only thing with which there is trouble, so it's with housing, it's a lot, but hotels are unjustifiably expensive, campsites are noisy, and renting accommodation from local residents is not very pleasant, due to the fact that they have a strange idea of coziness. Prices from 400 rubles per person.

To go to the Tunkinsky valley is best by car, so you can always stop in every interesting place, and there are a lot of them. The easiest way is to get from Irkutsk, first about a hundred kilometers to Kultuk, a little more and you get to a very picturesque place. I like to visit there, there are so many different picturesque and mysterious places, of course, the most popular are the resorts of Arshan, Pearl and Nilova Pustyn, where you can not just relax, but also undergo mineral water and mud. At the very foot of Sayan October 25, 2013

The village of Arshan is located a few hours' drive from Irkutsk, the road is very unusual, first about an hour we traveled through the mountains, serpentines and terrible turns, then descended to the ground and rode the steppe. The road is very beautiful, despite the fact that it was the beginning of September in the mountains was already snowing. The steppe is as if enclosed in a ring of these mountains and we went to the very bottom of them. On the territory of the village there are two sanatoria, where people come to be treated, many hotels and housing that local residents rent. At the foot ... Read the full review
