Activities, excursions and attractions Sant-Pol-de-Mar
In the 19th century along the entire Costa Brava coast, the road Cami de Rond was built for better control of the territory by the troops of the Civil Defense. Two centuries later, this road, which passes through Sant Pol de Mar, was the best way to explore the golden coast of Catalonia.
This route starts on the Roca Grossa beach. Along the way, Pujada de Sant Pau, the famous hut in which the hermits still live, and the Benedictine Monastery of St. Paul (Sancti Pauli de Maritima), on behalf of which the name of the city took place, meet. Further the central beach of the city of Platja de Pescadores and, finally, the main street - Carrer Nou.
- Go along the long coastline as long as you can, enjoying the soft sand under your feet and magnificent sea view.
- Detailed study of local churches - one of the most interesting ancient churches in Catalonia.
- Go on a day in Barcelona - unwind, preshopitsya and gaze at the sights.
- To taste a couple of desserts from a local strawberry.
It is worth looking into the summer houses along the sea shore in front of Placa de la Vila. Most of the buildings were built in the early 20th century and decorated with green glass ceramics and cast iron rails.
Sant Pol de Mar is also famous for the fact that one of the most ancient churches and temples of Catalonia has survived here, like Iglesia de Sant Pau (6th-7th century), the symbol of the city, and Iglesia de Sant Jaume (16th century) where the wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary (Mare del Deu del Roser) is stored.
Developments
The festival of Sant Pau (January 25) is a historical tradition that came from the Middle Ages along with the Sant-Giant Giants parade and Ball de l'Almorratxa ball, reminiscent of the medieval battles between the Moors and Christians.
The city festival of Sant Jaume on July 25 is accompanied by salute, national festivities, dances and other cultural events like the Arts Fair.
In August, the festival of Havaneres songs takes place, with a traditional grill program on the beach at the Rybakov beach (Platja dels Pescadors), in honor of the "sailing and fishing" past of the city.
On the first Sunday in May, the fair opens, dedicated to the strawberry - the fruit emblem of Vallalta. This event is mostly carried out to increase the sales of the strawberry of the Costa del Maresme, which fell due to climatic changes in the region. Another "edible" festival, dedicated to the same strawberry, Jornades Gastronòmiques, takes place mainly in restaurants, where local chefs offer strawberries in the form of all imaginable and unimaginable dishes.
In Sant Pol de Mar every year for almost 28 years is one of the oldest jazz festivals in all Catalonia - Sant Pol Jazz Festival. During the three weeks of May-June, famous performers like Locomotora Negra, La Vella Dixieland and Oriol Bordas perform in the city.
