Caravan in the Sahara desert, Tunisia

The Tunisian government introduced a new tax for foreign tourists. Now, non-residents will have to pay 30 TND (equivalent to 13 EUR) for leaving Tunisia

The new tax was passed by the National Constituent Assembly on August 7, 2014 and concerns all foreigners who leave Tunisia. The tax will be applied to all tourists leaving the country starting from October 1, 2014.

Tourists must independently purchase a special brand worth 30 TND in advance, which the passport control officer will paste into the passport of the tourist when the latter passes the passport control. The stamps will be sold at the kiosks of banks on the territory of the airport, post offices, as well as at specialized kiosks located in the resort areas.

The exit tax will allow bringing into the Tunisian budget about $ 23.5 million by the end of this year. Next year, the country expects to earn more than $ 70 million in this way.

Note that Tunisians have long paid a similar tax, which is twice as much. Citizens of the country are required to purchase a tax stamp at a cost of 60 TND for any departure from Tunisia
