The Orthodox Church of the Resurrection in Tunis is one of two Russian churches in the country. A witness of the history of the Russian community in Tunisia, filled with dramatic events, the church today serves as a stronghold for Orthodox believers - on solemn occasions divine services are held here, and in the shop at the church it is possible to buy the necessary items of the Orthodox faith.
The history of the temple dates back to the 1920s. , when the remains of the Imperial Navy arrived to the northern Tunisian city of Bizerte with more than 3,000 sailors and their families. Part of the Russian community, moved to the capital, since 1922, rented a modest room under the church. A full-fledged temple appeared only in 1955, the iconostasis and church utensils were moved here, and divine services began. With the acquisition of independence in Tunisia in 1956, a significant part of the community moved to France and the temple fell into decline - until the late 1980s, when the Russians began to return to the country.
