Local currency - Turkish lira (TRY), 1 Turkish Lira = 100 kurushas Banknotes are available in denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 lire. Coins - in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 kurushas and 1 lira.
In the spoken language, the abbreviated name of the currency is often used: instead of "bir lira" (one lira) they can say "bir YTL" -le, YTL from Yeni Türk Lirası - a new Turkish lira). Instead of "milyon" or "YTL" they say "kağıt" - "piece of paper."
