Kamenets-Podolsky is not only the center of the administrative district of the same name, but one of its oldest cities .At first the city was a fortress on the border of the Christian and Muslim world, at the intersection of important trade routes, both land and sea .The city had not only important geopolitical significance, but was also famous as a major trade and craft center .The city survived the seizure and looting of the Turkish army, liberation, annexation to the Russian Empire ... Today they are coming here to get acquainted with unique sights, plunge into the atmosphere of this Ukrainian city, admire the surrounding landscapes .

How to get here

As before, the city lies at the intersection of many important roads. You can get here on the roads M-6, R-31, M-12, H-03 through Zhitomir, Khmelnik, Letichev, Khmelnitsky, Ternopil. In addition, the path through Chortkov and Skalu-Podolsky along the M-19 and R-24 roads may be quite interesting.

By rail to the station Kamenets can be reached by a suburban train from Khmelnitsky or an early one from Kiev (50uah, 6 hours, night - 60uah, 12 hours).

In addition, two buses a day leave from Lvov (55uah, 6½ hours), one or two from Ivano-Frankivsk (35uah, 5 hours), three night buses from Odessa (75uah, 12 hours).

Transport

The old fortress (Old Castle) of this city is an outstanding fortification. It was built in the 17th century on the site of ancient Russian defensive structures. The church of Peter and Paul

The main religious building of the city is the church of Peter and Paul, built in the city by the monastic order of Dominicans. Construction took place between 1502 and 1517 years. During the Turkish rule, the Peter and Paul Church, like all churches in the city, was used as the main mosque, so a 36-meter-long minaret was added to it. It so happened that the cathedral of the city of Kamenets-Podolsky is the only church in the world with a minaret.

Tourists should take into account that tours in this church are held only during a time free from worship.

Trinitarian Church

Trinitarian church, one of the city's attractions, was built here by the monks of the Order of Trinitarians, who contributed to the ransom of slaves from Turkish captivity. The church is built in the Baroque style, its facade attracts attention with harmonious architectural details. Now it is the functioning Greek-Catholic church of St. Josaphat.

Church of St. Nicholas

At the highest point of the city stands the Dominican church of St. Nicholas. It is considered one of the most ancient temples of Kamenetz-Podolsky and praised for its beauty by many Ukrainian poets. For the first time the Dominican monastery was mentioned in chronicles in 1372, later it burned down, but got a second life thanks to the patronage and generosity of the Potocki clan.

Town Hall

In 1374 the town hall was built in the city, which is considered the oldest in Ukraine .This is a two-story building, eight-hour clock tower and multi-level cellars, ominous, like all the cellars of old official buildings .Originally the building was Gothic, but then it was built in accordance with different architectural styles .Nowadays in the cellars there is an exposition of the museum "The Court of Medieval Kamenets" with a rich exposition of instruments of torture, on the ground floor there is a quite democratic cafe "Town Hall", and on the second floor - the Museum of the History of Magdeburg Law and the Museum of Money .
