The resort village of Lielupe is located in the bend between the mouth of the same river and the Gulf of Riga, only 19 kilometers from Riga and is part of the city of Jurmala. Today Lielupe is a prestigious area of ​​Jurmala, a favorite place of the Latvian elite, and is popular, first of all, among beach lovers.

On the bank of Lielupe are the highest dunes in Jurmala - the dunes of the Raga, reaching 18 meters above sea level and are part of the Ragakapa nature park with an area of ​​84 hectares.

Entertainment, excursions and sightseeing Lielupe

Due to its proximity to the capital, as well as the presence of a waterway and access to the sea, the village of Lielupe was one of the first in Jurmala, where dacha developments began .In the beginning of the 1910s there were already dozens of wooden cottages scattered in a pine forest in Bulueciems in Lielupe, the oldest inhabited part of the village .Around the same time, in 1913, the wooden building of Lielupe railway station also belongs .In addition, many historical buildings have survived to this day, in which there lived famous Latvian figures: Professor Paul Stradin, People's Teacher Ernest Birznieks-Upitis, composer Janis Zalitis and others .

After the Second World War, a large fishing artel was established in Lielupe, known throughout Latvia and later grew into a large village with a fishing port. Today, the Lielupe National Museum serves as a reminder of the past times to tourists with an exposition on the history of fishing in Latvia.

Lielupe is famous for the largest water park in the Baltic region "LIVU" with a lot of attractions, among which Kamikadze is the craziest and extreme pipe in the water park and the Tornado is the only one in Europe and the third largest attraction of this kind in the world.

In Lielupe there is a yacht club and a national sports center and tennis center, built in 1989 and regularly used for international competitions. But still one of the most popular places for recreation in Lielupe is the sandy beach of the village.

In Lielupe there is the only beach for nudists in Jurmala, opened in 2009.

Water Park "Livu"

Dunes of Raga

On the bank of Lielupe are the highest dunes in Jurmala - the dunes of the Raga, reaching 18 meters above sea level and are part of the natural park "Ragakapa" with an area of ​​84 hectares .In the park are laid wooden paths, the so-called ecotropes: "Nature Trail", "Insect Track", "Pine Track" and "Vegetative Path", as well as the Jurmala Open-Air Museum .The tracks are wooden walkways intersecting with stairs and observation platforms .In addition, rare species of plants and protected bird species are found in the park, while the local pines have 300 years .

The museum located in the park is a real fishing compound with characteristic buildings of the late 19th and early 20th centuries: a house, a wheelchair, a cage, a workshop of networks, a smokehouse, a bathhouse and other buildings brought here from different parts of Jurmala. Also here you can see a collection of anchors, sea knots and fishing boats. The museum is open to visitors daily except Monday from 10:00 to 18:00 in the summer and from 10:00 to 17:00 in the winter. On Tuesdays entrance to the museum is free.
