The small fishing village of Alvor, located 5 km from Portimao, next to the Ria de Alvor National Reserve, is a modern resort with first-class golf courses, small cozy streets, snow-white houses, a harbor with luxury yachts and, of course, Portuguese restaurants with famous wines and fresh fish dishes. A mile from its center are sandy beaches framed by cliffs

The beach is located along a wide sandy barrier that protects the life of the Ria de Alvor lagoon from the salt waters of the ocean. In the reserve there live countless species of birds, fish and shellfish. On the waterfront of the resort you can see such delicate plants as Cucumbers, Cretan shamrock and many others

The authorities of the resort ask tourists about the careful attitude to the fragile vegetation of sand dunes and thus preserve this vulnerable habitat.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Alvora

Little Alvor is proud of its beach. It is located a few minutes walk from the city and is great for swimming and surfing in the beach season, and for a leisurely stroll in the winter months. Rest in Alvor, reportage (English)

There are not many attractions in Alvor, as most buildings were destroyed by the earthquake 1755 year. The only more or less preserved building after the earthquake is the parish church of the 16th century, but it was also restored. Prior to the notorious 1755, there was also an ancient Moorish fortress in the village, but after the earthquake, residents reacted to it from a practical point of view and used the fortress stones to rebuild their houses, so there was no trace left of it.

Despite the lack of a large number of attractions, Alvor has one big plus - it's a low cost of rent and food. In particular, you can find a room for three from 10 EUR per person per night.
